- Pacientes con Diabetes Mellitus tipo 1 sin reserva funcional de la célula beta
- Aquellos pacientes con Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 que presenten alguno de los siguientes criterios:
- Descompensaciones hiperglucémicas agudas
- Diabetes mal controlada, estando realizando correctamente la dieta y el tratamiento con hipoglucemiantes orales durante al menos 3 meses, en ausencia de obesidad.
- Contraindicaciones para el uso de hipoglucemiantes orales
- Embarazo
- De forma transitoria en situaciones de stress , infecciones, tratamientos con corticoides, problemas para la alimentación oral...
- Algunos autores recomiendan insulinizar cuando el tiempo de evolución de la diabetes es superior a 10 años y en presencia de complicaciones micro o macroangiopáticas. Habrá que considerar factores como el nivel socio-cultural, calidad de vida y objetivos individuales ante el paciente.
